The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mighty Crops Company Limited, Mr. James Dorkor, from Odumasi, was crowned Gomoa East's overall best farmer at the 41st Farmers' Day celebration in Gomoa Akraman. The best farmer's agro-based company is into fish farming, food crop production, fruits, and livestock rearing, among others, for sale both locally and abroad, and employs over 20 workers. He is also a philanthropist who prioritizes community corporate social responsibilities around his farm's catchment area.
For his prize, he received a tricycle, Wellington boots, a knapsack sprayer, cutlasses, and a certificate of excellence. He commended his company's staff, Nananom for releasing land, the District Agric Directorate for guidance, the Assembly, and Government for their support.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East, Hon. Margaret Naana Ackoom, commended farmers and disclosed the government's "Akoko Nketenkete" initiative to reduce chicken imports. She highlighted modern technologies to improve farming and encouraged youth involvement.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa East, Hon. Desmond DeGraft Paitoo, emphasized the NDC government's commitment to agriculture and urged youth to take advantage of farming opportunities.
The District Agric Director, Madam Haan Hasty, disclosed her office has formed 95 farmer-based organizations and groups registered on MoFA's web-based portal for the Feed Ghana programme. She appealed for assistance with motorbikes, maintenance, and fuel for staff.
Awards were given to best farmers, including Mr. Frank Addo (best fisher), Mr. Alex Arthur (best physically challenged farmer), Madam Hannah Okyere (best female farmer), and Mr. Baah (best youth farmer).This year's celebration theme was "Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future".
